This is evident in “The Winter’s Tale”. Lewis Ryder has the following quote:

Yet nature is made better by no mean But nature makes that mean: so, over that art Which you say adds to nature, is an art That nature makes.

They were close contemporaries, and John Harvard’s mother came from Stratford, being a friend of the Shakespeare family. Harvard University now owns the Harvard House in Stratford, and also contributed to the Harvard Chapel of Southwark Cathedral, where Edmund Shakespeare is interred, William’s younger brother. There is also a Havard Chapel of Brecon Cathedral, founded by my ancestors. John Harvard is descended from my ancestor, the eleventh century Norman Knight Sir Walter Havard (the original Norse spelling from Hoy Vard, the High Warden). Both Bacon and Shakespeare were humanists.
